Entry ID: OBIS.MMS.PEQUEGNAT

Summary
Abstract: This data set consists of the benthic sampling carried out beyond the
continental shelf in the Gulf of Mexico by Willis Pequegnat of Texas A&M,
primarily in the 1960's and 70's. The data were hand entered from a copy of:

Quality Data are non-quantitative both in sense that dredging/trawling are non-quant
and actual counts were omitted from the published data source.

Specimens were conscientiously sorted into single-species groups by a series of
students working on master's and doctoral degrees. Taxonomic experts
cooperated in the identifications and vouchers were files with the U.S.
National Museum of Natural History. The classification applied in the 60's and
70's may no longer be considered valid taxa and should be reviewed before
phylogenetic analyses are undertaken.
