Summary
Abstract: This paper examines the risk of salmon farm-source sea lice infesting wild
salmon.

Two principal questions are considered:

To what extent do salmon farm infestations of sea lice spread to wild salmon
stocks and Is government dealing with those risks in an appropriate manner.
The paper sketches the biology and natural history of the sea louse,
Lepeophtheirus salmonis, its parasitic relationship to salmonids and the
resulting effects of infection on salmon, summarizes the recorded occurrences
of sea lice outbreaks, or epizzotics, evaluates the pros and cons of various
treatments, and makes several recommendations.
