World Wave Atlas (WWA) is a user-friendly PC MS-Windows application
which can be used for geographical presentation of wave and wind
statistics world-wide. The first release provides the user
all-weather, high resolution, quality controlled and validated
satellite altimeter wave and wind data from the GEOSAT mission for any
ocean area world-wide. The data can be provided for any region
worldwide ... down to the smallest area of any 10 degree
latitude-longitude square world-wide.
WWA is being offered in two versions:
1) A basic version where the data is presented along the satellite's
ground track. Wind and wave statistics are presented for
user-specified areas and time periods. Frequency and cumulative
distributions and standard statistical parameters may be presented on
a seasonal, monthly and annual basis. Extreme value analysis is also
included. Further, time series plots and annual wind speed and wave
height contour plots are also provided.
2) An extended version which provides the user with all the facilities
of the basic version together with a full text description of the wave
and wind climate of the area in question in addition to basic
geographical information, a full set of seasonal and annual contour
plots of significant wave height, wind speed and minimum swell height
with interpretative texts. A set of geographical presentations of
special ocean wave events (extreme storms, swells etc.) is also
included, again with accompanying text descriptions.
