Data of growth condition and abundance of Euphausia superba circumpolar and in Prydz Bay in 2002/2003Entry ID: CNNADC_20022003_PrydzBay_2071
Abstract: During the 19th voyage of Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition during Dec. 2002 to Feb. 2003,High speed plankton collector (HSPC) were used to collect the circumpolar krill samples when the 'Xue Long' navigated under her nomal speed. In Prydz Bay IKMT net were used to collect krill samples. Krill samples were analyzed, including number counting, weight measuring and sexual maturation, body length and eye diameter determination. The aim of this study is to know the abundance and growth condition of the Euphausia superba in the Southern Ocean.

Quality Overall number and wet weight of each whole sample were determined first, then the damaged individual were put asideand a sub-sample of about 400 krill individuals was randomly selected from each sample for body length measurement (standard 1, Mauchline 1980) (using vernier caliper, measured to 0.02 mm), eye diameter measurement (using the dissecting microscope with a eyepiece micrometer(unit:grid and 1 mm=13.285 grid). Sexual maturation was analyzed according to the standard of Makarov and Denys (1981)); Usually 400 individuals were analyzed for sexual maturation, body length and eye diameter, but all would included in the case of small samples (400 individuals).
