WOCE Subsurface Float Data Assembly Center at Woods Hole Oceanographic InstitutionEntry ID: WHOI_WOCE_SUBSURFACE_FLOAT_DAC
Abstract: Subsurface floats track ocean currents at a predetermined neutrally
buoyant depth. Since the float moves with the water mass that it is
tracking, this method is known as Lagrangian current measurement.
Various types of Langrangian floats exist (SOFAR, RAFOS, ALACE, etc.).
The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Subsurface Float Data
Assembly Center (WFDAC) compiles float data from the WOCE program as
well as historical float data. Most major historical float data sets
are already included in the WFDAC. The goal is to create a
consolidated float data set usable by scientists for statistical
studies and incorporation into ocean models.
